A child’s education starts in the home and is continued as a partnership between home and school. This section describes the Guidelines for this partnership, specifically detailing the Responsibilities of the School, Responsibilities of Parents and Responsibilities of Pupils.

Links between home and school are strong and parents are welcomed into school. Our school liaises with parents through:

  • termly parents' consultation evenings - to discuss individual children’s progress and development
  • parents as assistants in the classroom and library
  • the work a child does at home
  • the school Newsletter - sent out regularly to keep you informed of forthcoming events
  • teacher to parent / guardian discussion by invitation
  • holding evening workshops using outside expertise

The school seeks to develop its involvement with the local community in a variety of ways -

  • Distribution of harvest gifts
  • Guest speakers for assemblies
  • Special guests to speak to children as part of class topics
  • Liaison with playgroups

At Russell School we encourage and praise the children wherever possible. We encourage children to take books home, generally books that they can read fairly well and enjoy, so that they can succeed. Do remember, they want to please you - don’t be afraid to praise them. Read to and with your child - learning should be fun, a pleasurable experience.

You can help your child with number work, through playing board games and card games, any time spent estimating / counting is beneficial - but have fun at the same time. Working together will ensure your child has a happy and successful school life.

We are always grateful for any help parents can offer in school, listening to readers, cookery, art / craft, covering books, etc. If you have an interest in helping and have some time, please notify the school.

We believe this partnership to be of vital importance, parents and children working together with trust and understanding, benefits the child greatly.
