News Footballer Andy O'Brien visits Russell.
14 June 2010

On Monday 14th June, We were lucky enough to be visited by footballer Andy O’Brien.  During his footballing career he has played for Bradford City, Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Bolton Wanderers as well as the Republic of Ireland National Football Team.

Following a question and answer session to the whole school he delighted the children by joining them in a kick about on the school field.

Kingfisher class wrote letters to Andy after his visit expressing their delight to meet him.

This is what George had to say:

“Thank you for coming and sharing your football life with us, we were very interested.  You gave great answers when we were asking you questions. If you don’t mind me asking how much do you think you would earn if you played for Manchester United and you were a striker? (Don’t worry if you can’t answer it.)

When you came in I was really excited! I actually couldn’t believe my eyes. The best bit about you coming to Russell Lower School had to be us getting your signature. When you stood at Kingfisher door you looked really tall and different from the picture we had.

I enjoyed playing football with you on the field and still can’t believe you play for Bolton Wanderers in the premier league. I reckon you’d be great in the world cup!!!! But unfortunately you’re not in it.

I hope this can happen again.”

Yours Sincerely

George

Thank you to Andy O'Brien for giving his time, we wish him every success in his football career.

We hope to show some photos of his visit on our photo diary at a later date.
