Italian day 20 Jun 2009

On Friday the whole school went Italian. Staff and children dressed in Italian colours, red white and green. There were a variety of activities available in each class ranging from decorating a map of Italy with sequins and glitter, making model pizzas using paint and paper and artwork. Key Stage 2 were lucky enough to be visited by Thomas who manages the Chequers at Millbrook. He gave an interesting talk about the Northern regions of Italy and Italian food. Thomas also taught the children some basic Italian words and phrases.
During the afternoon Kingfishers designed Italian handbags and cars. Nightingales made clay pizzas and found out more about Italy using the internet.
Throughout the day we ran an Italian café offering pizza, peperami, mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and olives. The children rounded off their taster session with a neopolitan ice cream, which went down very well indeed! Each class had the opportunity to visit the café and sample the foods whilst being serenaded by “The Three Tenors”.
It was a very enjoyable and educational day.
