11th June 2021

Year four enjoyed taking part in a live Zoom webinar today. Inspired by the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament, working together, The Literacy Shed, The Football Association (FA), Rebellion Publishing and award-winning author Tom Palmer are helping pupils get into reading through their love of football this summer.

Tom Palmer visited Russell Lower in 2020 just before the very first lockdown and pupils in Year 3 remember his assembly well.

The line zoom was watched by over 450 schools and roughly 14, 000 pupils. They launched a new Reading Challenge in the shape of a UEFA EURO 2020-inspired reading wallchart and announced a new online story by author Tom Palmer  which will be published three times a week ‘live’ throughout the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament.

Today we listened to the first chapter read by Tom Palmer and the year fours can't wait to find out on Monday what will happen next. We were soooo excited to hear the first shout out was to Russell Lower school and a few other shout outs as the zoom continued. A recording of the live event with Tom Palmer is available to watch at any time on the website here: literacytrust.org.uk/euro20

The year four children are taking part in both a football sweepstake as well as a reading one. There are more zooms planned over the next few weeks and next week's author is Priscilla Mante, author of The Dream Team: Jaz Santos vs. the World!
