Roles and policies

Safeguarding is of paramount importance at Russell Lower School.  All our staff receive regular training (in house updates at least annually and CBC training bi-annually). Our safeguarding and child protection procedures can be found in our Safeguarding Policy below. It can also be found under our policies section on the website.

Russell Lower School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All staff and governors must ensure that they are aware of these procedures.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at Russell Lower School is the Deputy Headteacher, Mrs. L. Bunney.

The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) at Russell Lower School is the Headteacher, Mrs N. Walker

The Governor responsible for Safeguarding is Mr. K. Redman-Henry.

Both the DSL and DDSL undergo regular training via the LSCB (local safeguarding children board) such as ‘Working Together’ training (4/1/18). Both have also attended Safer Recruitment for Managers (23/5/19). The Safeguarding Governor also attended this training.

The DSL and DDSL also attend other training and network meetings over the year as well as making use of online training when relevant.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding, the DSL completed train the trainer WRAP (Prevent) training in October 2015.  All staff receive Prevent training annually.
