Summer 2021 1st half
Paws, Claws and Whiskers!
We started off this second half term continuing our learning at home. Thankfully, it was only 2 weeks before we were able to return to school! Yippee!!
In English, we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. We enjoyed listening to and guessing who the ‘Masked readers’ were as well as doing lots of fun activities based on the book, ‘Chalk.’ We also read and performed a variety of poems from the story, ‘Rumble in the Jungle.’ We learnt to rhyme and write our own clues for guessing the correct animal.
In Maths we learnt to order and compare numbers to 50, find one more and one less than a number and how to count in twos, fives and tens. Since coming back to school, we have been learning to recognise and name 2-D and 3-D shapes, make fact families with addition and subtraction and compare and measure length and height.
In History, we found out about famous Queens and such as Queen Elizabeth I, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. We learnt what Tudor life was like during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. We also learnt how Queen Victoria lived and how she changed Britain for a better life. We explored the life of Queen Elizabeth II and wrote postcards home about how we would have celebrated the Silver, Golden or Diamond Jubilee.
In Science, we gathered and presented data through our rainfall experiment. We made rain gauges and used them to measure the amount of rainfall each day for one week.
In Design Technology, we used simple levers and pivots to make a moving mechanism for a mini-beast picture. We practised skills in cutting, folding, fixing and joining.
We also enjoyed our Computing sessions. We have become brilliant at Coding over the half term and learnt how to animate different scenes, using code and telling the computer to move objects in different directions. We also learnt how to hide and move objects at the start or when clicked!
When we came back to school, we were so excited to see our friends and finally play, socialise and interact once again! Through our PSHRE lessons, we recapped how to be good listeners and how to work together through sharing, turn taking and discussion (something we had really missed!)
We also played lots of ball games during our PE lessons, practising how to throw, catch, defend and aim balls and bean bags at targets. We are looking forward to another great half term in Year One!
