Summer 2022 2nd half

Year 2 Blog Summer 2

Another busy half term for Year 2!  Following on from ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ as part of our

Countryside Tales theme we are studying ‘Wind in the Willows’ by Kenneth Grahame a

children’s literature classic. We have meandered down the river with characters such as Mole,

Ratty, Badger and Toad writing letters, descriptive settings and a book review. Our

countryside theme leads us to look at atlases in Geography, enjoying using a

compass to find directions around the playground and drawing our own maps of the area

described in ‘Wind in the Willows’, complete with key. We have had great fun in our Science

lessons using the hydrophonic method of planting seeds. This involved

putting a bean in a plastic bag with a wet paper towel. The top of the bag was then sealed to

prevent air getting in and then taped to the classroom windows. After only a couple of days

the beans began to sprout and became seedlings. The beans will now need to be replanted in

some compost.  In art we have been learning the skills of collaging this includes, cutting tearing,

folding, layering and coiling. As you can see it has been another busy half term and we are looking

forward to finishing a challenging but enjoyable year by tie dying a t shirt and finally a party on the

field to celebrate the end of Year 2 2022.
