Y4 Waitrose Trip

18th September 2014
On Thursday 18th September Year 4 went on a trip to Waitrose and Ampthill Market to learn about foods and other products and where they had all come from around the UK and the rest of the world.

The children had a brilliant time and when they returned they wrote their own blogs about what they had learned.  Here are some of them:

On the 18th September Year 4 went on a school trip to Waitrose and the market. Woodpecker class went to the market while Kingfisher class visited Waitrose. We all had a great time looking around and the teachers bought some food for us to eat. When we went into Waitrose we did some filming with the iPads and we had a great time. We learnt where everything came from and how far the fresh food had to travel.

All of the Year 4s went to visit Waitrose. We were finding answers to our questions, such as, ‘Where do the fish come from?’ We found out that the fish come from Grimsby and that the stall holder had to get up at 2:15am!! When we were in Waitrose we found out that the apples come from all over the world.

Yesterday the Year 4s went to visit Waitrose and Ampthill market. Kingfisher class went into Waitrose first while Woodpecker class went to the market stalls. We got to look at all of the foods and see how far they had travelled to the store.

On Thursday 18th September Year 4 went on a school trip to Waitrose and to Ampthill Food Market. It wasn’t just food that they sold, there was jewellery, garden things and even plants!

Kingfisher class went into Waitrose first so we went to the market. We got into groups so we could go around to different stalls.

My favourite stall was the fish stall because one of my favourite animals is a shark. I asked the owner of the stall if he had seen a real shark and he had! By the time we had visited all of the stalls it was our turn to go into Waitrose.

In Waitrose we found out that bananas will help to ripen other fruit because they give off a ripening gas. We also found out that apples come from all over the world.
