Year 1

Week commencing 30.3.20

To our lovely Puffins, Owls and Wren children,

A big hello from  Mrs Milligan, Mrs Cox, Mrs Jochacy and Mrs Athanasiou!

We hope you are all keeping well and are enjoying spending some time with your lovely families.

We are all missing you lots but want you to know we are thinking of you all. We have uploaded some learning for all of you for this week in English, Maths, Phonics and other subjects. We hope that you’ll keep busy learning your spellings, reading, writing and working on our animal theme. You could be completing Learning Log activities and getting creative!

Please remember to continue to read every day and ask your grown-ups to ask you questions about what you have read.  Make predictions about what might happen next and tell your grown-ups what has happened in the story so far. If you have a tablet or computer then you can be working on your number bonds, number doubles and multiples of 2, 5 and 10 on ‘Hit the Button’.

We know things are little different for us all at the moment and we are all keeping ourselves busy looking after our own children, getting out in the garden and doing lots of busy jobs around the house! Please make sure you take some time to play games together, talk to each other and look after each other and please know us teachers will all be thinking of you lots!

Take care everyone, we’ll keep posting work for you on the website to keep you busy!!

Take care everyone!

Mrs Milligan, Mrs Cox, Mrs Jochacy and Mrs Athanasiou xx

Week commencing 20.4.20

To our lovely Puffins, Owls and Wren children,

We are missing you all very much but hope you have had a good Easter with your family. It’s very strange not to be at school with you all, but we know that by staying at home, we are all doing our bit to keep each other safe and well.

Our Easter has been very different to usual but we have been having lots of fun playing with our own children. We’ve been spending time in the garden, enjoying long walks and bike rides, hunting for Easter eggs around the house and of course eating lots of chocolate!  Hasn’t it been nice to see lots of sunshine?

Hopefully you have had a little break from all your learning and are ready for some new challenges. Just like before, we have uploaded a Maths, English, Phonics and one other subject for each day. There are lots of fun, practical activities this week which we hope you enjoy and can get the whole family involved in. Please don’t worry if you can’t get all the learning done but just try your best to keep your brains growing. We are very proud of you all for trying so hard. Be proud of yourselves too!

Please remember to continue to read every day and discuss the books you read.  Make predictions about what might happen next and tell your grown-ups what has happened in the story so far. There are some lovely eBooks on the Oxford Owl website and you can create your own free login.  If you have a tablet or computer then there are also lots of good links on the ‘kids area’ of the school website.

Children, please can we ask you to do one more thing for us? Please can you look after your adults at home? Try to do something especially kind or helpful every single day. Remember our Russell values and keep smiling!

Take care everyone, we are thinking of you all.

Mrs Milligan, Mrs Cox, Mrs Jochacy and Mrs Athanasiou xx

Week commencing 27.4.20

To our lovely Puffins, Owls and Wren children,

Hello everyone, how are you? We hope you are well and keeping yourselves busy. Thank you for trying hard with your learning last week, we hope you’ve enjoyed the activities that were set for you. We understand how different it is learning at home and as we take on the new challenge of home schooling our own children, we just wanted to say ‘well done!’

It seems very strange that we have not seen you all for so long. Your teachers have all been busy, spending some days at school, doing some work from home and also helping our own children with their learning. Although we have lots to do, we are still finding time to have lots of fun with our families – we hope you are too! Would you like to hear some of the things we’ve been up to during lockdown?

This week, Mrs Milligan has been doing lots of baking and taking part in competitive family netball challenges! Mrs Jochacy has been on a minibeast hunt with her boys and has enjoyed watching them have fun in the paddling pool! Mrs Cox has loved going on family bikes rides and long walks in the woods, looking at all the beautiful bluebells. Mrs Athanasiou has been planting seeds with the help of her children who have loved digging big holes, getting dirty and looking for treasure! We can’t wait to hear all your news the next time we see you!

Please find next week’s home learning pack attached to this letter. Remember to try your best, work hard for your grown-ups and just do as much as you can.

Take care everyone, keep smiling and enjoy a few of our favourite jokes each week at the bottom of our letters.  J J
