Year 2

Week commencing 30.3.20

Dear Robins, Penguins and Greenfinch children

We have uploaded some work for all of you for this week in English, Maths, Phonics and other subjects. We hope that you’ll keep busy learning your spellings, reading, writing and working on our fire theme. You could be completing Learning Log activities and getting crafty!

Please remember to read every day and ask your grown-ups to ask you questions about what you have read.  Make predictions about what might happen next and tell your grown-ups what has happened in the story so far. If you have a tablet or computer then you can be working on your times tables and number bonds on ‘Hit the Button’.  Try challenging yourself and working on the matching division. There are lots of websites that you can visit and you will find links to these on the Russell website too.

We have been so lucky to have had some lovely sunny weather to enjoy.  We’ve been keeping busy in our gardens and we hope you have too.  It’s a shame what we can’t use parks and playgrounds at the moment but once things return to normal, they will all still be there for you to play and enjoy.

We’re all really missing you at the moment but we’re keeping ourselves busy reading books, looking after our pets, spending time with our families and doing lots of jobs around the house.  We hope that you are using this time to play, learn, spend time with any family members in your house and rest.

Take care everyone, we’ll keep posting work for you on the website to keep you busy and to stop your brains from getting rusty!!

Kind Regards,

Mrs Hitchings, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Knight

 Week commencing 20.4.20

Dear Robins, Penguins and Greenfinch children

Welcome back to (home) school.  We hope you all had a great Easter with your family and that you didn’t eat too many chocolate eggs!!

We are now starting the summer term where our theme is ‘Countryside Tales’. This term we will learn lots about the outside.  We will use stories such as ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ by Roald Dahl and ‘Wind in the Willows’ by Kenneth Grahame.  In science we will learn about living things and their habitats as well as plants and what they need to survive. In other subjects we plan to look at foods that can be grown outside and making puppets of characters from stories we are reading.

Every week we will upload a ‘Daily Plan’ of work that you can complete that day.  Try your best to do what you can.  We know you will challenge yourself and give these tasks your best effort.

Please remember to continue to read every day and ask your grown-ups to ask you questions about what you have read.  Make predictions about what might happen next and tell your grown-ups what has happened in the story so far. You can still complete Accelerate Reader quizzes on line using your usual username and password.

If you have a tablet or computer then you can be working on your times tables and number bonds on ‘Hit the Button’.  Try challenging yourself and working on the matching division. There are lots of websites that you can visit and you will find links to these on the Russell website too.

The weather has continued to be amazing and we hope that you have enjoyed getting outside as much as we have.  We miss you all lots and we can’t wait to see you all soon and hear about what you have been up to.

Be good and stay safe and happy!

Kind Regards,

Mrs Hitchings, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Knight

Week commencing 27.4.20

Hello Year 2!

We really hope that you and your family are keeping well and that you have enjoyed the first week of our summer term theme ‘Countryside Tales’.  We have put some more daily work packs on the website for you and we hope that enjoy these tasks.  We have phonics, English and Maths for everyday and we have a pattern of music and PSHRE on Mondays, geography or history on Tuesdays, RE on Wednesdays, Art or DT on Thursdays and Science on Fridays.

We have been busy setting up a new class email account so that you and your family can keep in touch with us.  You can emails us photos of your work and creations if you wants to, you can ask questions or you could just drop us a line to let us know how you are getting on.  We can’t wait to hear from you as we’re really missing you all now!  All of the year 2 teachers have been into school recently to look after some of the children whose parents need to go to work.  It’s really strange being in school without all of you (and very quiet).

Carry on reading and practising times tables and number bonds.  There will be so many dojos to be given out once we are all back together.

Take care everyone, we miss you and hope to see you all soon

Hello Robins, Greenfinch and Penguins

We hope that everyone is well and getting back into the swing of home learning.  We’ve been busy getting some more home learning packs ready for you. This week is only a 4 day school week as Friday is a bank holiday.  If we had been in school this week we would have been learning about VE day and finding ways to celebrate this anniversary.  This celebrates 75 years since the guns fell silent at the end of the war in Europe.  If you and your family do anything special to celebrate this we would love you to send us some photos on our new class emails.

We’ve loved receiving messages and pictures from you and your parents this week.  You can ask us any questions or just drop us a line to let us know what you’ve been up to.  So far we have had photos of bug hotels, stories, household rules and all sorts of other things.  Our emails are:

robinclass@russell-lower.co.uk

greenfinchclass@russell-lower.co.uk

penguinclass@russell-lower.co.uk

We hope that the sunshine returns soon so that we can all get outside and get lots of fresh air.

Take care everyone, look after each other and we hope to see you soon.

Hello Year 2 and welcome to Week 4 of the summer term.  We really hope that everyone is well and still continuing to work hard at home.  We’ve loved receiving emails from you and your families this week.  Knowing that you are well and completing many of the tasks at home has made us very happy.

Please continue to keep in touch and let us know what you have been up to.  We’d love to hear if anybody celebrated VE75 last Friday. Send us any photos that you have taken either celebrating VE75 or photos that you have taken at home or out on your daily walk. We miss your faces J

We have got some more daily learning packs ready for you as we really don’t want your brains to get rusty.  Remember that ‘Hit the Button’ helps you with number bonds, multiplication and division.  We have been busy looking at your Accelerated Reader results and we are very impressed with the quizzes that many of you have been taking.  Lots of Dojos to be rewarded once we are back in school!

We are really missing you now and we cannot wait to get back into school to see you all.  Please continue to be super helpers at home for your family and take care of each other.

Keep in touch, lots of love

Hello Year 2 and welcome to Week 5 of the summer term.

Did you manage to see the video that the staff at Russell made? It’s on YouTube if you missed it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sq7wAz74l0&t=12s

We had great fun making it and we really hope that it made you smile.  Thank you again to anyone who has been emailing to the class emails.  We really love to receive your messages and we make sure that we reply to everyone.

Once again we have put some daily learning packs online for you to complete at home.  Next week is half-term so there won’t be anything online but you can continue with reading, time tables etc.  If you are able to, use the Accelerated Reader quizzes (follow the link from the Russell website) and Hit the Button.

Hopefully it won’t be too long until we are all back together at school.  Do your best to help at home, take your daily exercise and enjoy time with your family.

Keep in touch, lots of love

Happy Half Term Year 2!

Well congratulations for completing a whole half-term of home learning.  As this coming week is a half-term there will not be any home learning packs for you to complete.  Should you want to, you can continue to read and complete quizzes on Accelerated Reader, practise number bonds and time tables on ‘Hit the Button’ or even write a daily diary including what you’re doing and how you’re felling.

We are all missing you enormously.  We’re busy reading your friendship forms and thinking about your new classes for Year 3.  We love to receive and reply to your emails and see any photos of your work or just your smiley faces J

Make the most of the lovely sunny weather that we are set to have next week, get out in the garden or out for a long walk.  Look after yourselves with sun hats, sun cream and plenty of cool drinks.

Take care everyone and stay safe

Hello Year 2

We really hope that you’ve had a happy half-term and enjoyed this beautiful sunny weather.  We have been so lucky to have so much sunshine while we’re at home.

Now that we’re back at ‘school’ for the 2nd half of our summer we’ll be making sure that your home learning packs are on the website to keep you busy and to keep your brains active.  Please remember that the maths videos are a week behind, this is because White Rose update the videos late in the week and we like to get your home learning packs ready in plenty of time.

We look forward to receiving any emails that you send to the class email addresses, as we’re all now in school every day we might take a little bit longer to get back to you but we will certainly try our best.  We love receiving your emails and photos, it really makes our day.

We hope that everyone has a lovely week, take care everyone and stay safe.

Hello Year 2

We hope you’re all well and keeping busy at home.  We’ve uploaded a home learning pack for Week 8 to keep your brains buzzing.  Please remember that you can quiz on Accelerated Reader and use ‘Hit the Button’ to practice your times tables and number bonds.

Please continue to email us with your work, photos of you out for walks, or simply playing in the garden.  We are really missing your faces and we love to hear from you.  We promise we will reply. We are in school now teaching children from Swans, Swifts and Doves.  It is very strange to be in our classroom without our Year 2 children!

The weather isn’t quite as lovely this week but we know that daily exercise and fresh air is still good for both our bodies and our minds.

We hope that everyone has a lovely week, take care everyone and stay safe.

Hello again Robins, Greenfinch and Penguins

We hope you’re all well and keeping busy at home.  We’ve uploaded a home learning pack for Week 9 to keep your brains busy.

Last week you may have noticed that we have started to put up Loom videos on the website.  These videos go through the home learning tasks and help you to get the tasks completed.  You can comment on the videos and we will try to reply to all of you.  You can use emojis to let us know how you feel about the video and the tasks.  We absolutely love to see your comments and emojis, it feels a little bit more like we’re all together in school.

Please remember that you can quiz on Accelerated Reader and use ‘Hit the Button’ to practice your times tables and number bonds.

We all hope that you will continue to email us with your work, photos of you out for walks, or simply playing in the garden.

Hi Robins, Greenfinch and Penguins

To make sure that you’re all busy at home we have uploaded home learning packs for Week 10.  There are Loom videos to go with these packs available too.

We are all so excited to see you all on Monday if you are able to make it to the school field for our transition get together.  We know it will seem strange to start with but we promise you that after a couple of seconds you will feel like you’ve never been away! We know that your new Year 3 teachers are also so excited to get to meet you properly, we’ve been telling them all about you and they just cannot wait to see you. Bring along a drink and a snack and either a jacket to keep warm or sun cream to protect you, who knows what the weather will be like!!!!

Please remember that you can quiz on Accelerated Reader and use ‘Hit the Button’ to practice your times tables and number bonds.

We all hope that you will continue to email us with your work, photos of you out for walks, or simply playing in the garden.

Hi Robins, Greenfinch and Penguins,

With only 2 weeks left of the summer term we want to make sure that we are keeping you as busy as possible while you are still at home.  Learning packs are all ready for you and so are the Loom videos.  In maths this week we continue with measure and by the end of the week we start to look at time.  We really hope that you have a go at this work as we didn’t get a chance to do many lessons on time when we were in school together and we really want you to be ready for year 3!

We absolutely loved seeing so many of you when you came back to the school field last Monday.  We were so happy to see you but we’re also so sad that you won’t be returning to Year 2 with us.  We know you will love your new Year 3 classes and we can’t wait to see you all settled into these classes in September (fingers crossed!).

Please remember that you can quiz on Accelerated Reader and use ‘Hit the Button’ to practice your times tables and number bonds.

We all hope that you will continue to email us with your work, photos of you out for walks, or simply playing in the garden.

Have a lovely week everybody, take care everyone and stay safe.

Hi Robins, Greenfinch and Penguins

We cannot believe that this is the last ever week that Year 2 will need learning packs and Loom videos!  We’re so so sad that this year has come to a strange end but we are so very happy that everyone is safe and well and looking forward to starting Year 3 in their new classes.  We’ll really miss you!

This isn’t an end of term like any of us have ever experienced before.  For those of you who have been at home since the middle of March it probably doesn’t feel like the summer holidays are about to start.  Here in school we are busy doing the usual end of term job, getting display boards ready, labelling up new books, making new name peg cards and planning new lessons and activities.

We hope that you are all doing ok and are coping well in these strange times.  We have spoken to many of your parents and we are so proud to hear how well you are doing and how hard you have been working at home! Please keep it up over the summer with reading, writing, times tables and anything else that will help you get ready for Year 3.

Enjoy your summer and we look forward to seeing you all in September! J
