Year 4

Week commencing 30.3.20

Dear Year 4,

We have uploaded some work for all of you for this week in English, Maths, History and Art. You can find one document for each day that has all your activities within it. We hope that you will find it helpful in keeping you in touch with school.

Please remember to read every day and spend some time on Times Tables Rock Stars. Some really exciting news is that when Mrs Tuck last looked you are now top of the local school league – Year Four you rock!

Hopefully you have managed to enjoy some of the recent lovely sunny weather and have been out in your gardens burning off some energy!

This is a perfect opportunity to do something that you haven’t had time to do before like a jigsaw puzzle, an unopened craft set, a lego creation etc. As teachers we have enjoyed having more time with our families, time to read but are missing all of you so much! It is really quiet without you!

Take care and be amazing for your parents.

Kind Regards,

Mrs Tuck, Mrs Moffat and Miss Rawlings

Welcome to week 8 of our at home learning packs. We have been really pleased with your Cleopatra biographies and it shows how much you have learnt about her. This should come in handy with this week’s work.

This week school begins to reopen and we are so sad that for now this will not include Year 4. Dear Year 4,

Welcome to week 9 of our at home learning packs. We have been really impressed with your newspaper report about the death of Cleopatra VII and believe we have some future journalists among you.

This week school began to reopen and this is a positive sign that we are working alongside the government advice to get school back to normal as soon as it is safe to do so. It does feel strange in the Year 4 corridor not to have it bursting with Year 4 chatter but you have not been forgotten and we as teachers often talk about you and share news with each other about you. So keep your emails coming and we will continue to do our best to respond as soon as we can. So please do continue to use our class emails.

Hello Year 4,

We hope you are all well and continuing to embrace your home learning packs. Here at Russell, we cannot believe how quickly the last two weeks have gone and that there are now only a handful of weeks left of the official term.

We are continuing to make sure there are lots of hand on activities for you and as well as the science, geography and history we have included topical issues such as the Elon Musk’s rocket into space. Don’t forget this is linked to your learning of forces and of course your knowledge of places in the world.

You must be amazed at how much you know. Did you know that the science last Thursday involved carnivores, herbivores and omnivores which you first learnt in year 1 and food chains which you tackled in year 2?

If you want to enjoy further science, you can join the Wildlife Trust’s 30 Days Wild. Your parents simply register and then there are 30 activities to complete in June if you choose too.

Please keep sending us your work to the class emails and enjoy your reading and times table practise.

Kind regards,

Mrs Moffat, Mrs Tuck and Miss Rawlings.

Week commencing 22.6.20

Hello Year 4,

Congratulations are due for all the hard work you are putting in to your home learning packs. We are all regularly amazed by the work that you are sending us and really enjoy reading it.

Just for a reminder the e-mails are

woodpeckerclass@russell-lower.co.uk

starlingclass@russell-lower.co.uk

kingfisherclass@russell-lower.co.uk

There are now Loom videos for English and Maths for this week, they will really guide you with your learning. Look on the left column in Kids Area on the school website.

We received all your friendship forms for Alameda and the teachers there, are now busy making class groups with all the  other lower school children as well as Russell pupils.

I hope you are finding time to explore outside in a garden, around the pond or in the woods. You will be amazed how many animals you can find. As a challenge you could group them into reptiles, amphibians, mammals, fish, insects and don’t forget to look up at the birds overhead. You might even see a red kite and I know there are damsel flies hovering over the grass fields now.

Please keep reading and practising times tables, and enjoy.

Kind regards,

Mrs Tuck, Mrs Moffat and Miss Rawlings.

Week commencing 29.6.20

Hello Year 4,

Well we have been hot here in school this past week but we are drinking lots of water to maintain our hydration, make sure you do too.

Mrs Tuck, Miss Rawlings and myself have started to phone your parents in order to have a chat about you and your progress in school as well as your work during lockdown. It is lovely to be in “communication” once again and even better if we have the chance to have a quick word with you, as well as your parents. Some of you even seem to be in paddling pools, we are so jealous!

As you go out and about on walks, see if you can name some wild flowers or trees or if you are at home you could watch a webcam about ospreys nesting or hedgehogs on the march. Can you find any lichen on trees or stone walls?

Enjoy your reading and keep practising times tables.

Kind regards,

Mrs Tuck, Mrs Moffat and Miss Rawlings.

Week commencing 6.7.20

Hello Year 4,

It has definitely been cooler this last week and we are appreciating the lower temperatures in school. This spell of showery weather should hopefully end just in time for the end of term and any days out or holidays any of you might be able to have.

It has been lovely for Mrs Tuck, Miss Rawlings and myself to have short telephone chats with your parents and we are so impressed at how well you have been getting on with your new routines over the past few months.

We hope you are still managing to exercise. As you go out and about on walks, see if you can spot any wild animals or maybe start a game and see who is the first to find a coniferous tree or other items. We know you have great imaginations and so you can impress your friends and relatives with your ideas and knowledge.

Kind regards,

Mrs Tuck, Mrs Moffat and Miss Rawlings.

Week commencing 13.7.20

Hello Year 4,

It’s the final countdown for the end of the school year and what a peculiar year it’s been! We have missed you and your families greatly and we are really looking forward to seeing lots of you back in school for one last day this week!

As you will be in school for one day this week we have attached only four learning tasks instead of the usual five, there will be the same mixture of Science, History and PSHCE where you will get to finalise learning some disgusting digestion facts and even listen to a podcast by the producers of horrible histories!

We hope you have enjoyed the home learning packs provided, well done for reaching this point, we are proud of you -staying resilient, positive and motivated is tricky business! Please continue to enjoy reading over the summer; it is such a beautiful hobby and a fantastic way to learn epic new vocabulary!

Take care and please do keep in touch in September when you transition to middle school, we would love to hear how you are getting on!

All the very best, good luck and take care!

Mrs Tuck, Mrs Moffat and Miss Rawlings.
