Safeguarding is of paramount importance at Russell Lower School.  Russell Lower School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All our staff receive regular training (in house updates at least annually and CBC training bi-ennially).

Our safeguarding and child protection procedures can be found in our Safeguarding Policy below. It can also be found under our policies section on the website. All staff and governors must ensure that they are aware of these procedures.

The Governor responsible for Safeguarding is Mrs Hannah Leech.

The DSL and DDSLs undergo regular training via the LSCB (local safeguarding children board) such as 'Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children',  ‘Working Together’ training . The Head and Deputy Head have also attended Safer Recruitment for Managers (28.9.22. and 18.10.22). The Office Manager has also completed Safer Recruitment training.

The DSL and DDSLs also attend other training and network meetings over the year as well as making use of online training when relevant.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding, the DSL (Mrs S. Knight) attended Safeguarding and Prevent Train the Trainer training in June/July 2021). DDSL (Mrs L. Bunney) has attended train the trainer (Prevent) training in October 2015 and February 2020.  All staff receive Prevent training annually.

Whole school training by the Local Safeguarding Board has been provided during Inset Days on Prevent (September 2022) and Safeguarding (October 2022).
