Roles and policies

Safeguarding is of paramount importance at Russell Lower School.  All our staff receive regular training (in house updates at least annually and CBC training bi-annually). Our safeguarding and child protection procedures can be found in our Safeguarding Policy below. It can also be found under our policies section on the website.

Russell Lower School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All staff and governors must ensure that they are aware of these procedures.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) at Russell Lower School is the Inclusion Lead, Mrs. S. Knight.

The Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSLs) at Russell Lower School are the Deputy Headteacher, Mrs L. Bunney and the Headteacher, Mrs N. Walker

The Governor responsible for Safeguarding is Mr. K. Redman-Henry.

Both the DSL and DDSLs undergo regular training via the LSCB (local safeguarding children board) such as 'Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children' (2020-2021),  ‘Working Together’ training (2020-2021). The Head and Deputy Head have also attended Safer Recruitment for Managers (23/5/19). The Safeguarding Governor also attended this training.

The DSL and DDSLs also attend other training and network meetings over the year as well as making use of online training when relevant.

As part of our commitment to safeguarding, the DDSL (Mrs L. Bunney) has attended train the trainer (Prevent) training in October 2015 and February 2020. The DSL (Mrs S. Knight) is due to do this as soon as more training is offered. All staff receive Prevent training annually.
