Summer 2022 2nd half

Summer Term 2 – Year 4

We all feel that this half term has only just begun, however we are nearly half way through it. The children have continued to challenge themselves and each other on TT Rock Stars and this is reflected in their speed and accuracy. They have taken their skills and knowledge forward to the government times tables check and were very successful as they completed the short test. During this time, the year 4s also had GL testing in English, reading, maths and science and everyone impressed us with their stamina, determination and performance.

As we continue to learn more about the Ancient Egyptians we have learnt a lot about the Nile and the geography around this mighty river. We now know all the features of rivers as well as those particular to the Nile and have compared the uses of the river in ancient times and today. We have been lucky enough to have artefacts in school including ancient Egyptian amulets, jewellery and a game of Senet, all of which have enhanced their understanding of this civilisation.

We continue to learn about the Egyptian era in English as we study instructions and explanations about mummification. We have even mummified tomatoes with natron in the classroom!

Of course, now we have been on the Condover residential and what a great time everybody had enjoying buggy building, archery tag, survival skills, kayaking, trapeze and abseiling where a lot of children faced their fears with the heights involved but also impressed us with their knowledge and ideas as they responded to the Condover staff.

As we gather speed towards the end of the term, we will be busy with sports day, the Commonwealth Games, sports festivals with other schools as well as rehearsals for the year 4 production. Everyone will subsequently be very busy as we continue with the curriculum at the same time.

We look forward to seeing you at the Leaver’s Assembly, which will certainly be a sad but momentous day for us all.
