Sensory Needs (January 2023)

A coffee afternoon event was held at school with the theme of “Sensory seeking/avoiding”.

The focus of the presentation  and parent/carer discussion which followed was on understanding the different presentations of sensory needs and strategies for supporting children with them, both in school and at home.

The presentation slides are attached below:

Smooth Transitions (June 2023)
A coffee morning event was held with a focus on Smooth Transitions.
The participants were mainly from Years R-3 and therefore the focus was mainly on transferring from one class to another, anxiety and resilience.  However, transition to middle school was also covered.

Behaviour as Communication (November 2022)

A coffee morning event was held at school with the theme of "Behaviour as Communication".

The focus of the discussion was on effective strategies to support children in recognising, understanding and managing their emotions, including the use of Emotion Coaching.  This evidence based approach is used at Russell and has been shared widely with parents, so that parents and staff use a common language with the children.

The presentation slides are attached below.

Additionally, a document was shared with parents for recording/monitoring patterns in behaviour.  The ABC table is attached below.  An accompanying document "Behaviour Management at Home" is also attached.

Parent training sessions are being offered as part of the PINS (partnership for inclusion of neurodiversity in schools) project on subjects including Understanding ADHD, Autism, PDA, Understanding Challenging behaviour, supporting sensory difficulties at home, supporting the morning transition, dyslexia.

The ADD-Vance training needs to be booked by the individual links that are on each separate flyer and the BDA Training can be booked by emailing into PINS@ inbox. Both sets of training will be available as recordings - the ADD-Vance training recording will be available for a week after they have taken place and the BDA training recording will be available for 2 weeks.
